Easter Vigil is a ceremony of the Church which celebrates the resurrection of Christ and the eternal life given to those who believe in Him. During the ceremony, Matthew 28:1-10 is read aloud. This passage tells of when Mary and Mary Magdalene went to the grave and the angel announced to them not to be afraid because Christ has risen from the dead.
I wanted to tell the story of the women coming to the tomb and receiving this message from the angel. The chorus, which says: “Don’t be afraid, don’t let your hearts be so weighed down...” is an announcement to the entire Church. We have no reason to be afraid, because we have a hope that endures, a hope anchored in Jesus Christ and His resurrection from the dead. The repetition within the song is meant to remind us of this fact.
The final verse, which says: “We never truly live till we learn to die with You...” is part of the message of the Gospel which is shown through the Easter Vigil ceremony. It reminds us of the power of the resurrection; that when Christ rose from the dead He brought us with Him.

VERSE:
We were there when they took Your body down
And we saw them put You in the ground.
We were bringing spices to Your grave
That is where we heard the angel say:
CHORUS:
“Don’t be afraid; don’t let your hearts be so weighed down,
The Lord is awake our new hope’s risen from the grave.
Come see the place where our once dead Savior lay,
But know that today our new life’s risen from the grave.”
BRIDGE:
We never truly live till we learn to die with You.
We never truly live till we learn to die with You.
We seek life and we all seek the truth.
But we’ll never truly live till we learn to die with You.
