about

Save Now
(Justin Rose)

I remember when “Save Now” was first being written. It was the summer of 2007 and I was serving with Eric Himes on a month-long mission trip when he finalized the lyrics to the song. He asked a couple of us for lyrical advice and I remember being blown away, particularly by the bridge. I was touched by the prophetic Scripture—from Isaiah 9:6-7 and Zechariah 9:9-17—about Christ being announced by His children. These are beautiful passages to observe.

When we were rearranging this song for this album, we intentionally stripped it down to make the instrumentation simple. We also made a very bouncy, joyous, almost skip-worthy intro. Our intent was to bring out the folksiness of the song through its lyrical content, which tells this great story.

The story of Palm Sunday is one that I can always picture in my head. It is a day of joy, singing, dancing and worship, filled with power and hope. It is our honor to present you with a familiar song in a new way; a song which tells the story of Jesus walking into Jerusalem as the Prince of Peace, riding a donkey and being worshipped by His children.

lyrics

Save Now
Words and Music by: Eric Himes

VERSE 1:
Lord in Your entrance You are triumphant,
We lay our branches at Your feet.
Hailing Salvation, shouting “Hosanna”
Praise God in Heaven here comes our King!

CHORUS:
Save now, save now, Savior!
Save now, save now, Savior!

VERSE 2:
Some would see weakness, despair and sorrow,
But You see captives almost free.
You give two blessings for every trouble,
Ride on, ride on in Majesty!

BRIDGE:
The government shall be on His shoulders,
Our Covenant has come.
The Son of Man brings peace to the nations,
Our promise sealed in blood.
